Facial Treatments

A professional Facial Treatment is usually performed in a Salon or Spa environment with reliable results achieved by a trained and licensed Aesthetician.

Depending on your Skin Condition and the purpose of the Facial these typically consists of a combination of procedures which can include but not limited to:

  • Deep Cleansing
  • Extractions
  • Steaming
  • Massage
  • Exfoliation
  • Masks
  • Creams
These procedures are usually performed on the Face and Neck but can also extend to Shoulders and Back where skin conditions require treatment. The outcome of the treatment is to refresh and rejuvenate the skin and to treat various conditions including acne, blackheads, whiteheads and pigmentation as the typical range of skin conditions.

What causes Oily Skin ?

A major cause of oily skin is hormones. The problem usually starts around puberty and for many people it can last a lifetime. Anything that causes the hormones to fluctuate, e.g. stress, illness can cause the skin to produce more oil. For lots of women hormone changes occur not only during puberty, but also at the start of every menstrual cycle. Some of the most common areas that produce more sebum (oil) are face, head, chest and back.

Our skin produces natural oil to protect itself from the environment and bacteria. The oil helps keep skin healthy and hydrated. Most people with oily skin tend to over wash their face using harsh products to get rid of the excess oil, this makes your skin produce more oil as it feels the skin does not have enough moisture to protect it.

Remedies for Oily Skin

Use a gentle cleanser every morning and apply oil free moisturizer or sunscreen SPF 15 or above. No matter what colour your skin is Sunscreen is really important. In warm climates when you sweat more and need to wash your face often, use plain water. Reapply the sunscreen before you go out in the sun.

Every evening before you go to bed, cleanse your face again with a gentle cleanser and apply an oil free moisturizer. Try using moisturizers containing AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid) as this helps with production of collagen and helps the skin retain moisture.

Once a week apply a Clay Mask or Mud Mask on your face and whenever possible also have a professional Balancing Facial once a month to help accelerate results. Most experts believe that clay and mud masks can temporarily pull oil from the pores and shrinks the pores. There are also specific products for Oily Skin treatment.

If all the above symptoms still persists, go see a dermatologist or your doctor who will be able to prescribe topical creams that can help by reducing the amount of oil on the skin surface.

A mud mask will help draw out excess oil from your pores.
